RFID based brand protection

RFID based brand protection and grey market tracking solution for a handbag manufacturer

An RFID-based brand protection solution was developed for a well-known manufacturer of premium bags.

The bags are equipped with an RFID tag during production. The RFID tags are uniquely encoded in an RFID encoding station. Each bag therefore has a unique serial number. The serial number and an additional security element are stored in the cloud-based backend system.

In the distribution center (DC), the packaging process of the WMS (Warehouse Management System) is supported with a specially developed RFID packing table solution. The RFID antenna system is mechanically integrated with the scale. The data generated in the DC is also sent to the backend of the cloud application for further processing.

With the information collected during production and in DC, a handbag can later be traced after delivery.

The brand protection solution offers a dashboard with KPIs and various tabular reports in a web application. This allows the serial numbers of the bags to be tracked in production and in logistics system.

Work Items:

  • RFID consulting und evaluation (RFID technology, RFID readers, antennas and transponders)

  • Project-specific adaptation of the erfideo brand protection solution

    • Generation of unique serial numbers according to GS1 standard

    • Development of the software for the coding application (initializing the RFID transponders) and for the software in the distribution center (DC) and for checking the originality (verification station) of a bag.
    • Creation of a web application based on the erfideo RFID/AutoID integration platform
      • Interactive dashboard with KPIs
      • Report of used serial numbers (all handbags)
      • Track & Trace – History of each handbag in the logistical process
      • Interfaces to the warehouse management system for the exchange of master and production data

Possible future expansions at the customer site

Since an RFID transponder is attached to each product, the system can continue to grow and be used advantageously in the future. Here are few examples:

  • In the distribution center: goods-in, goods-out and stock taking
  • In the manufacturer's own stores: goods-in, relocation, stock taking, theft protection, goods-out to another branches or back to the distribution center, integration into the point of sales process
